Understanding Certifications

Certifications can be confusing at first, but they’re a powerful tool to ensure only qualified people carry out certain checks, ensuring your items are safe.

Create a new Certification

There are two ways to create a Certification from within the EZICHEQ app.

🖥️ Desktop

  • Navigate to the Certifications page by selecting Account > Certifications>

📱 Mobile

  • From anywhere within the app tap the drop-down menu at the top right (three horizontal lines) and select Certifications

From the certifications page tap Create New Certification

This will prompt a pop-up titled 'Create New Certification'

Enter the desired name for your new certification in the Name field

Its not required, but you may enter a short description for your new certification in the Description field.

Once you have done this and tapped 'Create', you will be re-directed to your new certifications page.

1. Using Checklists to Grant Certifications

Some checklists are designed so that completing them successfully will grant the user a certification.

These can be found in the Certification Checklists tab under Account > Certifications.

For example:

Forklift Competency Checklist

  • Purpose: Grants the Forklift certification upon successful completion.
  • Use Case: Practical assessments, where demonstrating competency results in being certified.

2. Understanding 'Exceeds' in Certifications

The Exceeds setting in certifications allows you to define a hierarchy where holding a higher-level certification automatically qualifies a user for requirements that need a lower-level certification.

What Does 'Exceeds' Mean?

If Certification A exceeds Certification B:

  • Users who hold Certification A are treated as if they also hold Certification B for checklist requirements.
  • This is useful for certifications with progressive classes or levels.

Example Scenario

Setup

  • Drivers License Class 2 exceeds Drivers License Class 1

Behaviour

  • A checklist requires Drivers License Class 1 to complete.
  • A user holds Drivers License Class 2.

Result: The user can complete the checklist because their Class 2 license exceeds (and includes the competencies of) Class 1.

Key Use Cases

  • Driver licenses: Class 5 > Class 4 > Class 2 etc.
  • Operator tickets: Advanced scaffolding ticket exceeds basic scaffolding ticket.
  • Safety roles: Site Supervisor certification exceeds General Worker certification.

3. Understanding the Difference Between Library and Company Certifications

  • Library: EZICHEQ comes a range of built in certifications. When a user is granted one of these certifications, they can check any checklist that requires this certification, regardless of the company an item belongs too
  • Company: Companies can create their own certifications, of which they have complete ownership of and are unique to them. This does mean, however, that it will be impossible for other EZICHEQ users outside of their company to check checklists that require these certifications.

Important Notes

The Exceeds relationship is one-way. If Class 2 exceeds Class 1: - Holding Class 2 satisfies Class 1 requirements. - Holding Class 1 does not satisfy Class 2 requirements. You can define multiple exceeds relationships to build a certification hierarchy tailored to your organisation.

Summary

Using Exceeds ensures:

  • Users with higher-level certifications don’t need multiple redundant certifications assigned.
  • Checklist access and safety compliance reflect real-world qualification structures efficiently.

3. Key Points to Remember

  • Granting certifications: Only for certification checklists, set under “Successful completion of this checklist is a prerequisite for obtaining the certifications.”
  • Requiring certifications to check: Only for standard checklists, set under “Require Certification to check.”
  • Certification requirements logic: Choose if all or at least one certification is required.
